Audrey Kepler and her daughter Bronwyn inherit a house in a small town called Magpie Creek.

It’s unexpected.  An inheritance from Tony, Bronwyn’s father who has died without warning.  The home they currently live in is to be sold, so this could be a windfall for them.

They fly out to view the house, Thornwood, with the intention of selling it and using the proceeds to purchase a new home in Melbourne.  Upon arrival at the property, they discover it’s not as depicted by the lawyer’s photographs.  The 1936 built home on 2,500 acres has been neglected and no longer looks magnificent, and the gardens are not just overgrown, they’ve gone wild.  Despite all this, Audrey and Bronwyn fall in love with it.  They race back to Melbourne and begin the task of packing up their lives to relocate to the country, to Thornwood.

They get settled into their new home and the small country town, Magpie Creek.  Then unexplainable things begin to occur.  Things that are tied to the past, to the original owners of the homestead, and to the towns people of Magpie Creek.

Audrey digs through the past to learn more about the history of Thornwood and Tony’s connection to it all.  When history is dug up, other things also surface.  Audrey discovers that Tony’s grandfather, Samuel Riordan, was accused of bashing to death a young woman upon his return from the war in 1946.  She was Tony’s grandmother.  There are other unexplained deaths in recent years too, similar to this one.  Is the killer still alive?

Audrey is compelled to delve into the past, to learn more about these murders and the connection between them.  Has she provided the killer with a reason to want to kill again?

Take the journey with Audrey and Bronwyn, as they settle into Thornwood and the community of Magpie Creek.  Enjoy the enthralling glimpses of the past as Audrey digs it up to solve the murders.

A truly pleasurable read.
